Sub-manhole and chimney neutralisers effectively eliminate odours and toxic substances

Underlid and chimney neutralisers effectively eliminate odours and substances emitted into the air in sewage facilities during the transportation, treatment, and storage of wastewater.

Advantages of use

Effective removal of sulphur compounds – the neutralisers eliminate volatile sulphur compounds, such as hydrogen sulphide and mercaptans, which are produced during the decomposition of wastewater.

Proven effectivenessstudies conducted by the Medical University of Gdańsk and the Institute of Fluid-Flow Machinery of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

Easy installationthey can be installed in both new and existing sewage infrastructure.

Maintenance-free operationthey do not require daily supervision or action from staff.

Low operating costs – the neutralisers do not require power, eliminating energy costs, and the only replacement needed is the carbon insert.

Reliability – the effectiveness of air purification is not dependent on temperature fluctuations or varying amounts of wastewater.

Corrosion resistancemade from materials resistant to corrosion and chemicals present in wastewater.

Application

Passive neutralisers can be used in:

  • sewage pumping stations and pumping plants,
  • domestic sewage treatment plants,
  • food processing plants,
  • expansion wells,
  • cesspits,
  • infiltration systems,
  • sewer manholes.

Types of passive neutralisers

One type of neutraliser are the passive neutralisers, where air flows gravitationally as a result of pressure differences.

Two types of passive neutralisers are available:

  • ENPeco sub-manhole neutralisers,
  • chimney neutralisers: EZK, KF, and KFW.

Construction and installation

The device is made of HDPE, which is highly resistant to prolonged contact with aggressive substances present in sewage installations. Ecol-Unicon sub-manhole and chimney neutralisers were developed in cooperation with leading experts in odours and toxic substances. Their effectiveness has been confirmed by the Faculty of Health Sciences of the Medical University of Gdańsk and the Institute of Fluid-Flow Machinery of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

Thanks to the applied technical solutions, easy and safe replacement of the insert is possible, reducing operating costs.

The devices are constructed from HDPE, which is highly resistant to prolonged contact with aggressive substances present in sewage systems.

The technical solutions used ensure the tightness of the construction and allow for the easy and safe replacement of activated carbon inserts (impregnated, catalytic). The correct selection of these inserts affects the efficiency of air purification and the longevity of the device.

To maintain the full efficiency of the neutraliser, remember to regularly replace the carbon insert!

Operating method

The sewage system transports wastewater to a specific area, where biochemical reactions occur, leading to the formation of chemical compounds, including odour-causing ones. These compounds mix with the air, posing a potential threat to human health and the environment.

In the neutraliser, contaminated air passes through an activated carbon bed, which traps the contaminants through chemisorption. This process, aided by an alkaline impregnate, involves the chemical bonding of contaminants to the surface of the activated carbon. Therefore, the appropriate selection of the type of activated carbon bed is crucial for the effectiveness of the neutralisers, tailored to the specifics of the location where the device operates.

Operation

Regular inspections of the devices are essential to assess their technical condition. During inspections, neutralisers should be cleaned of debris, sand, and stones, and the operation of the EUcleanON® system in underlid neutralisers should be checked by pouring water into the siphon.

The technology allows for easy replacement of the neutralising insert without the need to purchase a new chimney or housing, which reduces operating costs. The lifespan of the activated carbon bed depends on the concentration of contaminants in the air. Ecol-Unicon supplies new inserts and ensures the collection of used material.
