EPS Sewage Pumping Stations – in what situations are they used?
The EPS pumping station is a key component of the sewage system, designed to transport sanitary and combined sewage over a specified distance and height. EPS sewage pumping stations have a declaration of performance and a CE mark confirming compliance with the standard EN 12050-1:2001 (translated as PN-EN 12050-1:2002), as well as the construction mark confirming compliance with the Polish National Technical Assessment for devices with pumping systems. The sewage pumping stations produced by Ecol-Unicon use a pumping system consisting of one or more pumps.

Environmental and safety compliance – EPS sewage pumping stations have a declaration of performance and a CE mark confirming compliance with the standard EN 12050-1:2001 (translated as PN-EN 12050-1:2002), and they are also compliant with the Polish National Technical Assessment issued by ITB
- They meet the needs of both large companies and private investors,
- Located inside and outside buildings (as local or network pumping stations),
- Used in municipal and industrial sanitary and rainwater sewage networks,
- Used in municipal and industrial sanitary and combined sewage systems,
- Suitable for the hydraulic transportation of various types of sewage: domestic, industrial, and process sewage,
- Applicable wherever gravity sewage discharge is technically impossible or economically unfeasible,
- Effective in unfavourable terrain, difficult soil and water conditions, high groundwater levels, or long distances from the disposal site to the treatment plant,
- Installation is possible in both green areas and on roadways,
- The construction of extensive pumping systems with extremely large capacity ranges is also possible.
Construction and installation
Produced by Ecol-Unicon, sewage pumping stations are designed to the specifics of each project. A typical EPS sewage pumping station includes:
- body,
- hydraulic-mechanical equipment,
- pumps,
- automation system with remote control option.
The body of a sanitary sewage pump station can be made from various materials, such as concrete, reinforced concrete, polymer concrete, or HDPE. The diameter of the body is adapted to the intensity of sewage inflow, the size of the pumps, and the diameter of the hydraulic equipment.
To install the pump station on a roadway, the body must be designed with appropriate strength parameters. The device cover has an opening with a manhole made of stainless steel, HDPE, or cast iron, depending on the terrain. This opening facilitates maintenance and operational work. Passages through the body walls are made watertight.
How is the EPS pumping station installed?
We deliver the bodies of the pumping stations to the construction site either as monolithic tanks or in prefabricated segments, which should be installed according to the provided instructions and dimensional drawings.
The installation of the internal equipment begins with setting the coupling elbows, which connect the pump to the hydraulic installation. Next, the installation of the discharge piping and fixtures, guides, or level sensors is carried out. The guides allow the pumps to be lowered, which automatically connect to the discharge pipe, attached to the coupling elbow.
The final stage involves connecting the electrical installation, as well as the power and control switchboard.

WaterFolder Platform
This dedicated calculator will make it easier than ever to automatically create proposals for equipment with the right parameters. It is entirely based on the data you input into the system.
The benefit of performing the calculation yourself is, first and foremost, time savings. You are immediately able to select optimal solutions without having to wait for feedback. The data entered is processed by an automated system, and the intervention of a physical employee is not required at any stage.
The Pumping Station Selection Calculator is a great initiative, showing that the world of water infrastructure can be digitised as well.

Operating method
The pump system consists of submersible pumps selected according to project specifications and individual user requirements. Most commonly, configurations consist of one to four pumps, which operate fully automatically with the involvement of control devices.
Pumps in sewage pumping plants are adapted for parallel and alternating operation. The operation of the pumping station relies on the hydraulic system, regardless of the inflow size to the tank. Periodically activated pumps installed in the body ensure the stable operation of the entire system.
The alternating operation mode allows two pumps to operate simultaneously, together providing the total efficiency of the pumping station at the assumed lift height.
During parallel operation, each pump operates in cycles alternately, serving as a reserve for each other with efficiency equal to the total efficiency of the system at the assumed lift height.
Depending on the type of medium being pumped, the diameter of the piping inside the pumping station, and operating parameters, such as the pumping station’s output and lifting height, two types of impeller constructions are used: Vortex type and channel impellers.
- The channel impeller is characterised by high efficiency and is designed to transport large volumes of water, with the medium flowing directly through the device structure.
- The open vane (Vortex) impeller rotates in a horizontal position, creating a centrifugal force that directs the sewage towards the discharge nozzle. The medium does not flow directly through the impeller, but it merely provides the driving force. Devices of this type guarantee a large free passage, making the entire system more resistant to potential contamination.
Operation
EPS sewage pumping stations operate in automatic mode. Proper operation is based on regular maintenance work described in the service activity schedule. Continuous monitoring of the devices is also crucial, especially in the case of problems with electricity supply or when there is an increased inflow of solids into the pump chamber. All activities can be found in the Pumping Station Operation Manual provided by us. Maintenance involves caring for the technical condition of the devices according to their Technical Documentation.
- The period between inspections should not be longer than one year, as a lack of monitoring can result in equipment failure.
- The frequency of inspections should be increased if there are problems with the electricity supply or if a large amount of solids, such as fabric fragments, sand, etc., flows into the pumping chamber with the sewage.
- All activities should be recorded in the Pumping Station Operation Manual.
