Due to rapid residential development and a growing population, the authorities of the Municipality of Ostrów needed to increase the capacity of the municipal wastewater treatment plant in Skrzyszów. The existing installation, with a capacity of 710 m³/d, was no longer sufficient to meet steadily rising demand.

Under the project “Modernisation of the water and sewerage infrastructure of the Municipality of Ostrów – Stage I: Expansion of the municipal wastewater treatment plant in Skrzyszów”, works were carried out to increase the plant’s total capacity to 1,100 m³/d. The investment included the construction of a new, state-of-the-art biological reactor with a capacity of 390 m³/d and the implementation of a range of innovative technological solutions.

As the General Contractor, Ecol‑Unicon delivered the project in a “design-and-build” formula, responsible both for preparing the design and execution documentation and for the comprehensive delivery of works in line with the design.

The total project cost amounts to PLN 14.9 million. The Municipality obtained PLN 9.8 million in funding under the “Polski Ład” (Polish Deal) programme.

Scope of works

  • preparation of complete design-and-execution documentation
  • construction of a new biological reactor with a capacity of 390 m³/d
  • expansion of accompanying infrastructure (installations, networks, equipment)
  • installation of a new aeration system in the sludge stabilisation chamber
  • technological commissioning of the plant
  • performance of tests and trials, and handover for operation

Solutions implemented

The expansion was delivered as a comprehensive investment, from design through to start-up. A key element was the use of a modern biological reactor and an innovative sludge aeration system, which increase treatment efficiency and improve overall plant performance.

All technological solutions were selected for long-term reliability, high performance and minimal environmental impact. The expanded plant will not only meet the current needs of more than 7,300 residents, but also provide a robust foundation for further residential, commercial and industrial development in the region.
