As part of the construction of the S3 expressway, Ecol‑Unicon delivered and installed a HYDROZONE retention tank on schedule at the Jaczków Motorway Service Area (MOP). The tank is an integral element of the site’s drainage system, and the collected rainwater can be used for fire protection purposes if needed. Additionally, the tank provides continuous protection against flooding, ensuring the proper operation of the service area even during heavy rainfall. The investment complies with current regulations on retention within road infrastructure and meets fire safety requirements.

Scope of work

  • Construction, delivery, and installation of a retention tank for collecting stormwater, with the option to use it for firefighting (firewater) purposes. The tank was tailored to site conditions and road infrastructure requirements.
  • Installation of flow control components such as valves, regulators, and pump systems.
  • Integration of additional functional modules to enable the tank’s use in fire safety systems.

The tank is part of a larger infrastructure project. The S3 expressway is a component of the pan-European corridor – the Central European Transport Corridor. The project includes the construction of 11 engineering structures along the S3 route, four overpasses across the expressway, two road tunnels approximately 2300 m and 320 m in length, and a Motorway Service Area (MOP) designed for rest and service purposes. The MOP will feature parking spaces, maneuvering lanes, sanitary facilities, and ultimately a fuel station and food and retail amenities.

Applied solutions

  • The project employed a HYDROZONE retention tank designed to manage and remove excess stormwater.
  • The tank has a capacity of 200 m³.
  • Its structure allows for the installation of infiltration openings.
  • The modular design enabled flexible adaptation of the tank to the specific conditions of the service area.
  • The concrete tank is suitable for installation in trafficable areas.

This investment enhances the operational safety of the MOP. In addition, the applied solutions and modular design allow for easy maintenance. The use of this type of retention tank also provides the option of equipping it with the Bumerang Smart system – an intelligent platform for remote monitoring and management of operating parameters.
